Kingsbury survives much smaller Maldonado at TUF 13 Finale

LAS VEGAS - It looked like a heavyweight versus a blown up middleweight, but fighting at the highest level has little do with appearances. The much bigger Kyle Kingsbury discovered what crisp boxing felt like and found himself in a dog fight against Fabio Maldonado. Kingsbury was able to survive some nasty body shots, score a few takedowns and do enough damage from the thai clinch to pull out a unanimous decision, 29-28 on all cards, at "The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale" at the Palms.

"What a battle. A war. My head just continues to swell up. (Maldonado) is like the Terminator," said Kingsbury.

It's the fourth straight win for Kingsbury, who got off to a less than stellar start with the UFC. Kingsbury (11-4, 4-1 UFC) is one of several TUF alums on the card. Kingsbury lost to both Ryan Bader and Krzysztof Soszy?ski on the show, but the UFC saw enough in him to offer him a spot on the TUF 7 Finale. The former Arizona State defensive lineman has grown a lot as a fighter. He met a tough cookie tonight in Maldonado (18-4, 1-1 UFC).

"All the footage I saw on him came through tonight. But is sure is different going through it in your head and then experiencing it in person. I kept giving him good shot after good shot and they seemed like they were just going right through him," Kingsbury said. "It can be a little disheartening.? It does affect you.? But he's experiencing the same thing as well.? You just need to keep your composure."

Early on, it looked like Kingsbury would overpower the Brazilian. The thai clinches appeared to be doing major damage as the taller Kingsbury threw some vicious knees. Upon closer look, Maldonado was blocking many of the knees and began hurting Kingsbury with some powerful body shots. He also ate a few big overhand rights. When Kingsbury decided to blow his nose in the third round, his left eye blew up.

According to FightMetric, Maldonado outlanded Kingsbury 122-110. That included 65 body shots. Both, this Cagewriter and Yahoo! Sports' lead MMA writer Kevin Iole scored it 29-29 for Maldonado.

"I have a lot of respect for Kyle. He's a really tough guy. I honestly thought that I won the fight," Maldonado said. "I felt like I controlled every area of the fight.? Applying a little more pressure and a few more kicks might have convinced the judges in the end that I did do enough to win the fight."

The Kingsbury takedowns must've gone a long way for the judges. He made good on 5-of-14.

Some cool selling buying cars images:

I remember a long time ago when Stephen King?s "Christine" was adapted to the big screen. It scared the crap outta me. Also because my mom had a Corvette Stingray that was the same color as the evil automobile in the movie? but that?s where the similarities ended.

My mom bought that car while she was doing her tour of duty for the Air Force in Hawaii (and coincidentally, got to see production of ?Magnum PI?- she LOVES Tom Selleck) and brought it back to the mainland with her. She?s short, about 5?0", and had to sit on a pillow just to see over the windshield.

She drove that thing until it couldn?t possibly go any farther. When she sold it, she looked as if she?d lost her best friend.

This photo is one of about 300 that I took at a classic car show here in California. After seeing the time, money, and attention that is paid to these classic cars, I can see how they would become interwoven into someone?s very being.

This one I think I would enjoy for a daily driver. Probably not very quick, though, for today?s traffic.

The main theme of the fall meet at the Carlisle PA fairgrounds is the buying and selling of cars. I saw a social tent for visitors from Brazil and I heard some Scandinavian languages on the field. This show seems to do some volume and prices are lower than the big show in Hershey the next week.

1961 Chrysler Newport Station Wagon.

From the display: "Walter P. Chrysler founded the company bearing his name in 1925 from what had previously been the Maxwell Motor Company. He had earlier experience at Buick and Willys-Overland. Chrysler added the Plymouth, DeSoto, and Dodge nameplates to his corporation over time.

By the 1950?s, Chrysler had gained a reputation for engineering excellence but rather boring styling. The image of Chrysler cars began to change with the increasing influence of stylist Virgil Exner, who came to the company in 1949 from Studebaker.

By the late ?50s, Exner was bringing ever sleeker, wider, and stylish cars to market. The 1961 and ?62 Chryslers were noted for their canted, quad headlights that gave the cars a unique appearance.

This massive station wagon is a great example of the large, powerful family cars of the early ?60s. With its unique torsion bar front suspension, superb TorqueFlight automatic transmission (controlled by dash-mounted pushbuttons), and enough space for a family and all their "stuff", it was a great car for vacations and hauling all the things a suburban family needed.

In May 1961, Jurgen Vind, a Truckee construction company owner, bought the car in San Francisco. The car remained in the Vind family for the next 37 years, serving for daily commutes, family vacations, and as a first car for their daughter. The car survived near demolition in a terrible mudslide near Lake Tahoe in 1967. Placed in storage in the 1980s, the Vind family finally sold the car to Tom Ortiz in the ?90s and restoration was begun. Tom still owns the car and keeps it here for us to enjoy."

Low Intensity or High Intensity: Cardio exercise or Anaerobic ...

Many fitness regimens, especially those for beginners, incorporate aerobic exercise as a key component. However, should they incorporate anaerobic exercise as well? To answer this, you must understand the difference between aerobic and anaerobic exercise as well as the benefits to be gained from each. The contrast is really low intensity vs high intensity. Most people are familiar with aerobic varieties, which are the low intensity cardio programs designed to burn fat; anaerboic is less well-known. Anaerobic exercise includes high intensity exercise like HIIT routine or a strength training regimen.

Aerobic literally means ?with oxygen.? Oxygen is required to keep muscles in motion for a long period of time. Muscles use this oxygen to burn fat. Aerobic exercise is low to moderate in intensity and of extended duration, such as swimming, jogging, skiing or biking.

If aerobic is ?with oxygen? it?s easy to see that anaerobic is ?without oxygen.? You, of course, still require oxygen to do anaerobic exercise, however, your muscles do not get sufficient oxygen to create energy needed to maintain a high intensity work out. Without the oxygen, your muscles are forced to burn glycogen, a component of carbohydrates. Exercise that is intense and of short duration is considered anaerobic activity, such as weight training or sprinting.

There are a number of health benefits to aerobic exercise. At least 30 minutes of daily activity can help improve your heart, lungs and blood flow which ultimately lead to a longer life. These are among the other benefits:

1. Weight Reduction

2. Better endurance

3. Enhanced immune system activity

4. Lower risk from such diseases as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, stroke and other heart problems and even certain types of cancer

5. Improving circulation and the cardiovascular system

6. Increased good cholesterol, decreased bad cholesterol

Anaerobic exercise also offers quite a few benefits. Anaerobic exercise makes your muscles stronger and helps decrease body fat. A strength-training regimen will help build muscle mass, decrease body fat, increase bone density, and give you much of the same sorts of general health benefits you get from aerobic activity. Another common form of anaerobic training is a HIIT routine, which involves short bursts followed by recovery periods. It has been demonstrated that this sort of exercise increases metabolism after the routine, which results in more calories burned than with a low intensity work out. There?s also the release of HGH, a hormone that promotes fat loss and muscle gain. You?ll also enjoy an improved aerobic capacity and much better cardiovascular system.

Aerobic and anaerobic exercises both have their own special benefits that will help you lead a healthier life. Therefore, both are a valuable part of any fitness routine. But, a beginner should start out with an aerobic exercise regimen. To perform high intensity anaerobic training, you must have a good aerobic base built up. Fitness experts debate about whether aerobic vs anaerobic exercises should be performed. For most of these regular exercisers, aerobic activity often seems far too easy and doesn?t seem to provide any real benefit, especially when compared to anaerobic exercise. Aerobic exercise should still be included though as there are important health benefits to lower intensity exercises. Additionally, too much anaerobic exercise can lead to burnout or overtraining.

The next time you are deciding between aerobic vs anaerobic routines, keep in mind that the key question is really low intensity vs high intensity. Aerobic training is low intensity, long duration and anaerobic training is high intensity, short duration. Aerobic exercises like walking or jogging offer numerous health and cardiovascular benefits while anaerobic exercises such as a strength training routine or HIIT routine generally allow for more efficient fat burning and muscle building.

Why no Run-Flats for motorcycles? - GL1800Riders

JohnCooper,
When I first heard about a car tire on a motorcycle, I too had my doubts. Then I was talking with my Dad, (others, please be patient, Yes I've told this before!!) and he told me that the car tire on a motorcycle was nothing new. When he came back from the war, (WWII) the soldiers were all putting car tires on their Indians and Harleys because they weren't making motorcycle tires. The rubber was going for more important things, like the war effort. Now, if it worked way back then...with the trash tires they had, why wouldn't it work so much better now with the newest technology in tire innovation??? Also, does the owners of the Boss Hoss factory not know from nothin' when they ship those 500HP motorcycles with a .....what???????....a car tire on the back. Anyways.....read more about it and make up your OWN mind. The folk who trash a car tire on a bike...most have never ridden one. We, who have gone this route, wouldn't do it if it was unsafe or wouldn't put our life or the life of our riders in jepardy if it wasn't anything but safe. Yes, it will take a few miles to get used to the "feeling" or the more pronounced countersteer, but you have to countersteer anyways, just you don't realize it as much with a motorcycle tire. Just try steering into a corner with one hand, and you'll really get to know "countersteering" up close and personal!! Anyways, just my 2 (non)cents. Take care and Semper-fi MIke __________________

Lady Gaga Gets Remixed by Sonic the Hedgehog (Sorta)

Lady Gaga has been remixed by just about everyone, and now we can add Sonic the Hedgehog to the list.

Well, kind of. In the remix above, the pop music powerhouse?s ?Bad Romance? gets mixed in with the plinking tones of the ?Flying Battery Zone? from videogame Sonic & Knuckles. The results are pretty amusing ? like being in a mall in the 1990s and being an equal distance from the arcade and the Record Town. (Head here to download the ?Flying Battery Romance? MP3.)

In other Fame Monster news, Gaga?s new album Born This Way sold 1.1 million copies in its first week and almost killed Amazon.com.
