Stock market is ending the week on a sour note

NEW YORK (AP) ? Stocks are opening lower on Wall Street, deflated by signs that the global economic meltdown is being felt across Asia.

The Dow Jones industrial average is down 53 points to 13,112 in early trading. The Standard & Poor's 500 is down six to 1,397. The Nasdaq composite index is down nine to 3,010.

China reported sinking growth in exports and imports. That is troubling because China, the world's second-largest economy, has helped drive global growth even as other countries struggled.

It's also a reminder that almost nowhere is immune to Europe's debt crisis: Europe is China's biggest trading partner, and sluggish demand pushed down the growth in China's exports.

Manchester United, the celebrated British soccer team, is set to debut as a public company.
