FROM PAUL YURA AT THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE:

A dryline will move through the western Hill Country on Tuesday afternoon, setting the stage for another day of dangerous fire weather conditions. this dryline (basically a humidity front) will push to around Highway 281 Tuesday afternoon. To the west of this boundary, expect relative humidities as low as the single digits and teens. These low humidities, along with dry west to southwest winds of 15 to 20 mph and gusty, will promote the spread of wildfires. for this reason, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning from 10am-8pm Tuesday for the areas mainly west of Highway 281, or the western parts of South Central Texas. It remains dry throughout all of South Central Texas, so even though eastern areas will not technically be under a Red Flag Warning, there is a high potential for fire everywhere with dry grasses, gusty winds, and low humidities.

90s are forecast for Tuesday afternoon along with the dryline moving into the area. this may just be enough lift to get a few isolated thunderstorms to fire over the eastern Hill Country, into the I-35 corridor, and farther east into the coastal plains east of Austin. If any storms are able to form, they will likely go severe. Large hail and damaging winds will be the primary threats. They will not be very widespread.

This threat for severe thunderstorms will occur again on Wednesday afternoon and evening when a backdoor cool front moves into the northern half of the area and settles to near a line from Fredericksburg to Giddings. this should keep the threat zone for severe storms over the northern half of South Central Texas.
